A well deserved weekend away

So here I am sitting on a NWA flight. Not only do they fly to the wrong airports, they don’t know how to get out of the ones they are in! My first complaint: I have a carry on suiter with some clothes for a 3 day trip (not that much). NWA insists that I check my bag. After a brief confrontation that I wanted to carry my bag. No need to check it. I concede and give in. They then tell me that will be $20. Come on! It’s was extortion. The bag always fit in the overhead before, why wouldn’t it now? The flight wasn’t even packed. Just an aggravating way for them to get another few bucks out of me! Anyone out there have the same complaint? PLEASE email me and let me know.
My not so typical day flying to the Northeast. I might add that this is taking place while the Mid Atlantic and the Northeast is getting hit with the remnants of Hurricane Ida. Don’t you just love it? After all the remarks from friends and family back in 2005 of how we have to be nuts to live in Florida because of the Hurricanes, we have had 3 years where the Mid Atlantic and Northeast are the ones getting the brunt of these storms. (I may add that when I left for the airport it was 78 degrees in PB County and I am heading to 45 and rainy!))
So here I am. All the last minute emails and phone calls to cover my shows today and to make sure I have commitments for next week’s day time shows. Those of you who aren’t aware, I still use this antiquated cell phone that doesn’t always work in other parts of the country. So, I am preparing just in case I am phoneless for a few days.
OK, it’s on time and we are boarding. As soon as we get on the plane, the Captain announces that due to the winds in NYC we are delayed at least an hour. Come on! You new this before you loaded the cattle on the plane! Fast Forward… It’s an hour later and they think they can pull back from the gate. Now I have to admit that once we took off it was a quick and event free flight.
Ok, so I left 70 degrees + to get off my flight and thrown into 45 degrees and rainy. Boy do I remember this weather. Can’t say I miss it!
So now I have a weekend with a little work but mostly with lifelong friends. It’s a celebratory weekend and I am looking forward to be with these people. They are all like brothers and sisters to me. We have so many times and memories together. I guess this our version of “The Big Chill Weekend” (happily no funerals).
The beauty of the world today is that I can turn on my computer or plug into the car radio and listen to shows on W4CY radio. I was driving from the airport to my friend’s house listening to Fan Base yesterday. Really cool. We have come a long way since AM/FM only.
I will be updating my blog with thoughts and events from this journey. Please send me some stories you might have of traveling and /or getting together with lifelong friends.
More to come over the next few days. Let’s talk about it on air Monday night
Thanks
Peter
